On this occasion, we had the opportunity to interview Tigran Kuchatyan, the founder of the band.<\/p><p data-start=\"251\" data-end=\"509\"><strong data-start=\"251\" data-end=\"509\"><em data-start=\"253\" data-end=\"507\">We know that the band&#8217;s name is derived from the Armenian &#8220;VanaTor&#8221; and the Scandinavian god Thor. Does this mean that your group has the goal of promoting not only Armenian national songs and melodies but also the ethnic compositions of other nations?<\/em><\/strong><\/p><p data-start=\"511\" data-end=\"923\">In reality, we don\u2019t do what we do for the sake of propaganda. We love folk music, and we believe that music holds great energy. Naturally, we focus on our national songs first, but we also appreciate and perform ethnic music from other nations, especially Scandinavian and Celtic music. From the outset, the goal of the band has been to present ethnic music in general, regardless of which nation it belongs to.<\/p><p data-start=\"925\" data-end=\"1054\"><strong data-start=\"925\" data-end=\"1054\"><em data-start=\"927\" data-end=\"1052\">You have worked for quite some time with the &#8220;Kharahunj&#8221; band. How did the transition from &#8220;Kharahunj&#8221; to &#8220;VanaTor&#8221; happen?<\/em><\/strong><\/p><p data-start=\"1056\" data-end=\"1354\">&#8220;Kharahunj&#8221; disbanded, and for about two or three months, I was thinking about forming a new group. In the beginning of the last year, the new band &#8220;VanaTor&#8221; was formed. Our first concert was at the Narekatsi Art Center, and since then, we have participated in several festivals and small concerts.<\/p><p data-start=\"1356\" data-end=\"1496\"><strong data-start=\"1356\" data-end=\"1496\"><em data-start=\"1358\" data-end=\"1494\">Does the &#8220;VanaTor&#8221; band aim to promote national music to younger generations, and if so, what steps are being taken in this direction?<\/em><\/strong><\/p><p data-start=\"1498\" data-end=\"1944\">In general, the primary goal of the group is to keep our musical heritage alive and present it to today\u2019s audience in a new way. If we\u2019re talking about spreading national music, I must mention that we collaborate with school principals who kindly invite us to perform. I believe that through such concerts, we can ignite a love for national songs among the emerging generations. However, we haven\u2019t yet taken any large-scale steps in this regard.<\/p><p data-start=\"1946\" data-end=\"2368\">Recently, we had a concert at the Narekatsi Art Center, which accommodates around one hundred people. I can say that if on that day one hundred people came to listen to good music, fifty thousand people went to listen to bad music. This shows that there\u2019s no balance between good and bad; more young people today listen to bad music. But I should also mention that there\u2019s a core group of young people who have good taste.<\/p><p data-start=\"2370\" data-end=\"2464\"><strong data-start=\"2370\" data-end=\"2464\"><em data-start=\"2372\" data-end=\"2462\">Do you agree with the opinion that music can be a tool for educating future generations?<\/em><\/strong><\/p><p data-start=\"2466\" data-end=\"2742\">I believe it can, although I\u2019m not one of those people who was raised with music. I remember that my mother sang more ashugh (traditional folk) songs. I felt the impact of music on me during my conscious years when I was simultaneously listening to both ethnic music and rock.<\/p><p data-start=\"2744\" data-end=\"2887\"><strong data-start=\"2744\" data-end=\"2887\"><em data-start=\"2746\" data-end=\"2885\">When you try to present national songs in a new, more modern version, do you ever worry that certain values might be lost in the process?<\/em><\/strong><\/p><p data-start=\"2889\" data-end=\"3250\">I believe the most important thing is to convey the mood of the era. If you manage to immerse yourself in that era, to get into the mindset of the composer, who is singing with a certain emotional state, you will successfully convey the song, and it won\u2019t matter what elements you use. Arrangements are mostly made to provide a contemporary rhythm to the piece.<\/p><p data-start=\"3252\" data-end=\"3293\"><strong data-start=\"3252\" data-end=\"3293\"><em data-start=\"3254\" data-end=\"3291\">What memories do you have of Sevan?<\/em><\/strong><\/p><p data-start=\"3295\" data-end=\"3670\">We often visit Sevan with friends. The first thing I remember when speaking about Sevan is the evenings by the lake, sitting around a campfire. These evenings often turn into illuminated mornings. We sit around the campfire all night, play the guitar, sing, and interestingly, our small group expands as strangers join us. We end up spending pleasant days in Sevan like this.<\/p><p data-start=\"3672\" data-end=\"3725\"><strong data-start=\"3672\" data-end=\"3725\"><em data-start=\"3674\" data-end=\"3723\">What attracted you to the Sevan Music Festival?<\/em><\/strong><\/p><p data-start=\"3727\" data-end=\"4081\">First of all, it\u2019s very nice that this year\u2019s theme is folk music, and I also appreciate the location. I think Sevan is a very interesting place to hold such projects. It would be great if the festival expanded its boundaries in the future and became, for example, an international festival.
