Interview with folk singer Jora Barsegyan

_ Your genre is sometimes chaotic, do you think this brings you closer to the music?

_ Since I come from the village of Mush Diadin, I believe I am a part of the song and it is in my blood, it is a part of life for me. I started singing at a very early age as well.

_If you do not become as succesful as you hope, do you think you would ever leave the folk music genre and sing in another genre?

_ I dare say that day may come, I fear. If I did move genres I would like to move to jazz, but folk will always be very close to me.

_<< Gata>>, please tell us a little about what you do.

_<< Gata>> the band is working on incorporating the A and G, it adds a lot to the music and I am always working to develop the music. It seems like there are a lot of songs that are distorted, so there is a need to deliver the right kind of music. Me and my friend, Hrayr, tried to make a song that will stand out for its quality. I think the goal is for us is to impliment some new, fresh versions of songs. In my opinion, we can consider our music Gata.

_What do you think needs to happen for society to make a national song popular?

_I have a pretty popular opinion and believe that there is no age limit for people to enjoy music. I have been invited to sing at weddings and I have to say, some people are more active during instrumental songs than songs with lyrics, which is a good thing.

_<<  Gata>>, what programs are influences within the band?

_The group expects to do new recordings of songs, make videos, and for my personal work, I am working with children. The children give me all my energy to incorporate national values into song and dance. I like that they are able to recognize good music and bad music and we can put that into our creation of a better version of folk songs.

_Why did you decide to take part in the Sevan Music Festival?

_I always like to sit on the shore of Lake Sevan, walking and singing. The festival, the venue, and the format are all good. When I read the application I knew I wanted to participate. Traditional music is interesting when on modern instruments. I also like the color of the festival and the addition of colors is definitely a reason for me to take part.
