The Sevan Sculpture Park

“You Cannot Break Free from the Stone that Binds You!” is how Murad Hovakimyan titled his sculpture that features a beautiful angel embedded in stone. The sculpture is located on Sayat-Nova Street in Sevan. Murad recounts that many years ago, he extended a project proposal to the local municipality to invite talented sculptors from all over Armenia for collaborating with each other and creating new sculptures together. These sculptures would then be installed in different places in the town of Sevan. The municipality graciously agreed to cover the expenses for the artists’ lodging and meals. The project became a huge success, resulting in 11 new magnificent sculptures placed all over the town. Some of these sculptures

• Norayr Karganyan’s “Hakob’s Marvel” (1993),
• Rubik Abrahamyan’s “The Family” (1993), and
• Tigran Arzumanyan’s “The Chronicler”) were installed along Sayat-Nova Street.

At the end of the street, you will see Murad Hovakimyan’s “Phoenix”. The remaining sculptures have found their place in other parts of Sevan – in front of the Holy Archangels’ Church, near Sevan State College, and beside the former ZIM factory.
