Near the Tsamakaberd district of the city of Sevan, about 2.5–3 km to the east, there is a small chapel that locals call “Mashtotsner.” The mountains located east of the chapel are also called Mashtotsner, and the chapel itself is situated on one of their southern slopes.
The name Mashtotsner is connected with Mashtots I Yeghivardetsi, a Catholicos who came to the mountains opposite Sevan Island to live in seclusion.
According to local tradition, the water from the spring flowing beside the chapel has healing properties. From the chapel, there is a view toward the Small Sevan side of Lake Sevan, and in front of it one can see the dense forest spread across the slopes of the Mashtotsner mountains.
