Interview with Arman Khachatryan: A Talented and Determined Actor from Sevan
On February 13, the student theater of Yerevan State Institute of Theater and Cinematography (ETKPI) will host the premiere of the play “Joan of Arc”. One of the talented cast members, Arman Khachatryan, shares his thoughts with us. Arman is a dedicated and active member of the Sevan Youth Club, a proud representative of Sevan, and someone whose journey is filled with ambition and passion.
Q: What are you generally involved in?
Arman:
I’m currently studying at the Yerevan State Institute of Theater and Cinematography, in my 3rd year. I’m an actor. I have the privilege of studying under a wonderful artist, who has already left a significant mark on the field and will continue to do so. My deepest gratitude goes to my mentor, Vahe Shahverdyan.
Q: Can you tell us a bit about the play? Is this your first time on stage, and how has it changed your worldview and personality?
Arman:
The play is called “Joan of Arc.” It’s a one-act mystical drama, where emotions, feelings, and ideas blend with music to form one cohesive artistic piece. The director of the play is my very dear friend and talented artist, Galust Nersisyan, whom we, along with other colleagues involved in the play, trusted and fully dedicated ourselves to for the sake of this noble endeavor.
The cast consists mostly of my friends—my classmates and fellow students. The actresses are Anush Hakobyan and Mariam Ghaleyan from the same institute, from Hrachya Gasparyan’s workshop. I also have the honor of performing alongside the talented actress Anush Arakelyan, who is also the producer of our play, and the gifted actor Ishkhan Garibyan.
I’ve been on stage before and am familiar with the environment, but this is my professional debut on the big stage.
The play has had a tremendous impact on my worldview. I’ve begun to value and appreciate things, even people, that I didn’t notice before. I want to live beautifully, and I am trying to adopt a lifestyle that aligns with aristocratic standards, which I find appealing.
Q: What does art and theater mean to you?
Arman:
I’ve said this many times, and I’ll continue to say it—theater is my life, even though I’m just taking my first steps towards it. It’s a taste, a mentality, a lifestyle, a path that is rich in beautiful and aesthetically significant moments on both sides.
As for art, to me, it’s like a boomerang—it brings pleasure, it’s ecstasy.
Q: What would you like to see in your dream Sevan?
Arman:
Sevan is my home, my Sweet Home. In my dream Sevan, I’d like to see a more devout and art-loving, romantic society.
Well, let’s hope that Arman’s dream will come true through his example. We wish him the best of luck for the premiere and for bigger and greater stages ahead!
